Christmas Wifesaver Casserole

This is one of my favorite parts about Christmas.  I don’t know what mom does differently, but good golly, she rocks the Wife Saver casserole like no other.

This was my New Year’s Day brunch – just because I like it so much, and because I had everything I needed on hand.  I mess with the recipe, pretty much every time.  That is why I’m including a link to a proper-sized recipe. (I make it for 2.  It’s nice to share and it’s nice to have leftovers if not shared.)

Christmas Wife Saver Casserole:
Ingredients

4-5 slices bread, crusts removed (I use rye.  White bread is actually tastier.)

3-6 slices cooked bacon, chopped (ham also works nice)
Some pumpkin head got into trouble over this today.
2-3 slices processed American cheese slices
2 eggs
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1 tbsp minced onion
1ish tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 cup milk
1/8 c butter (or less)
1/4 cup crushed Corn Flakes
In a glass loaf pan, buttered, put 2 pieces of bread. Slice off bits of a 3rd piece to better cover the bottom of the pan. Cover bread with bacon or ham. Top with cheese slices. Cover with slices of bread, as on bottom.
Combine eggs, pepper, mustard, onion, Worcestershire sauce and milk using a stick-blender. (Immersion blender.) Pour over bread, cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, sprinkle cereal over the ‘sandwich.  Melt butter and drizzle over all.

Bake at 350F, uncovered, 1 hour. Let sit 10 minutes before serving.  Taunt your friends with pictures. J
